LIPSYNC DRAWS BLOOD


- Company to provide full post and equity investment for psychological thriller -

London, UK - 6 March 2012 - LipSync will provide equity investment and full post-production services for Blood, a dark thriller depicting the moral collapse of a family of detectives. The director, Nick Murphy, returns to LipSync following a previous collaboration on The Awakening.

Blood features a strong cast including Paul Bettany, Mark Strong and Brian Cox. The film will be produced by Neal Street Productions, which recently enjoyed great success with the BBC's 'Call the Midwife', and is funded by the BFI, BBC Films, Quickfire and LipSync Productions. Principal photography has just started, and the film is scheduled to be released in 2013.

LipSync has also won the post-production contract for Wasteland, a drama set in Yorkshire and written and directed by Rowan Athale. The film stars Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter series), Luke Treadaway (Attack the Block, The Whistleblower) and Timothy Spall.

LIPSYNC PROJECTS 2012


It may seen hard to follow the success of 2011, which included equity investment and outstanding post work on titles including We Need To Talk Abour Kevin, Jane Eyre, The Deep Blue Sea and My Week With Marilyn, but LipSync continues to attract major names and award-winning film and television projects through its Wardour Street doors.

The likes of Stephen Woolley and David Thompson keep returning for more of the quality work and quiet efficiency that they appreciate, while the word spreads to first-time visitors that this is a great place to make great pictures.

Here is a round-up of completed and forthcoming LipSync projects so far for 2012.


FEATURE FILMS

Shame, Coriolanus and W.E., all released in January 2012

LipSync provided equity investment and full post-production services for the BAFTA-nominated Shame and Coriolanus, and VFX work for W.E.

Byzantium - release date TBC


Produced by Stephen Woolley's Number 9 Films and Parallel Films, this film - about a mother and daughter vampire duo who form a deadly pact - is directed by the Oscar®-winning Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) and stars Gemma Artertom, Saoirse Ronan and Johnny Lee Miller. This film will feature large scale visual effects from LipSync's growing VFX department.

Great Expectations -
release date TBC

This film marks the fourth time LipSync has worked with Stephen Woolley. Produced by Woolley’s Number 9 Films, the BBC and the BFI, this new Dickens adaptation stars Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane, with the role of Pip played by Jeremy Irvine, who has the lead role in Steven Spielberg’s production of War Horse. Post-production is due to start in late March 2012.

Total Recall – release date TBC

LipSync will provide a significant amount of VFX work - around 200 shots - for this big-budget ‘re-imagining’ of the 1990s Schwarzenegger futuristic classic, starring Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston, and directed by Len Wiseman (Die Hard 4.0, Underworld). VFX work has already begun, with a very cool trailer almost complete, and is due to finish in early June.

Now is Good – UK release date 25 May 2012

An adaptation of Jenny Downham’s best-selling novel, Before I Die, this film is directed and written for the screen by Ol Parker and produced by Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin (In Bruges). It stars Dakota Fanning as Tessa, a teenager with just a few months to live who has a wish list of things she wants to experience before she dies. The cast also includes Paddy Considine, Olivia Wiliams and Jeremy Irvine who recently starred in War Horse.

Lay the Favorite – release date TBC

Despite a great script, Stephen Frears attached as director and a cast including Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rebecca Hall, a funding crisis loomed on this ‘dramedy’ about a Las Vegas betting scam. Following successful collaborations on Toast and Jane Eyre, production company Ruby Films approached LipSync to take a stake in the film. Thanks to LipSync’s independent status it was able to quickly offer investment and, with the final pieces of the budget in place, production was able to get underway.

Blood – release date TBC

Director Nick Murphy returns to LipSync following The Awakening, for another dark, psychological thriller. Iain Softley directs this film about a yound girl, suffering from amnesia after surving a house fire that thakes her childhood friend'd life, being a tormented road to recovery. The prolific Robert Jones is producing the film

Wild Bill – UK release date 30 March 2012

Actor Dexter Fletcher turns co-writer/director for this story of a reluctant father just out of prison who is blackmailed by his eldest son to pretend to look after his children, in order to keep them from being taken into care.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen – UK release date 20 April 2012

LipSync provides VFX for the extraordinary story of Dr Alfred Jones, a fisheries scientist who finds himself reluctantly involved in a project to bring salmon fishing to the Highlands of the Yemen - a project that will change his life, and the course of British political history forever. With Lasse Hallström at the helm and a cast including Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott Thomas, this is one to look out for.

Hunky Dory – UK release date 2 March 2012

Marc Evans directs this film set in the long hot summer of 1976, when an inspirational and aspirational drama teacher (Minnie Driver) decides that the end of year show will be a rock and roll version of The Tempest.

Bel AmiUK release date 9 March 2012

Another literary adaptation, this time from Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel exploring a young man's rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city's most influential and wealthy women. Robert Pattinson stars with Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas in this sumptuous period drama.

Shadow Dancer – UK release date 6 September 2012

This BBC Films production set in 1990s Belfast follows the story of an active member of the IRA becomes an informant for MI5 in order to protect her son's welfare. The film is directed my Oscar® winner James Marsh (Man on Wire), while Clive Owen, Gillian Anderson, Andrea Riseborough and Aiden Gillen lead the cast.

Boxing Day – release date TBC

Bernard Rose directs his fourth Tolstoy adaptation, this time a reworking of the short story Master And Man. Danny Huston stars in the film which follows a limo driver and his passenger who get stuck in the Colorado mountains.

Broken – release date TBC

Broken is the directorial debute of the award-winning theatre director Rufus Norris, starring Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy, the film tells the story of a young girl in North London whose life changes after witnessing a violent attack. It is produced by Tally Garner of Curtis Brown, and Dixie Linder, with whom LipSync has recently worked on Trap for Cinerella. The production is financed by the BBC, BFI, Bill Kenwright Productions and LipSync Productions.

Wasteland – release date TBC

Set in Northern England, the tagline for this film is ‘Life gave them lemons – they’re going to steal the rest’. Written and directed by Rowan Athale, the film stars Luke Treadaway, Ophelia Lovibond and Timothy Spall and is being produced by Gareth Pritchard and Ed Hook. Shooting started in February.

Swandown – release date TBC

A feature length travelogue produced by Lisa Marie Russo (Self Made) and Kate Ogborn (Deep Blue Sea). Andrew Kotting and Iain Sinclair travel from Hastings to Hackney in a pedalo(!), recording their encounters with people and places.

What's Going On? – release date TBC

Rare Day Productions is producing Penny Woolcock's documentary feature film about the true story of two gangs in Birmingham who want to reach a truce after a series of violent exchanges. The film, produced as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, is funded by C4 and Screen West Midlands.

TV PRODUCTIONS

Birdsong TX 22 & 29 January 2012, BBC ONE

Adapted from Sebastian Faulks’ haunting novel set before and during World War 1, Working Title Television brings filmic ambition to this television production. Effectively two 90min feature films, the high production values shine through in each scene. LipSync’s VFX, grading and audio teams greatly enjoyed the challenges presented by this epic production.

Dancing on the Edge – TX TBC, BBC TWO

Acclaimed writer/director Stephen Poliakoff has brought together some of the UK’s finest big screen talent for BBC2 in his first ever major drama series for British television, which is set in the early 1930s and follows a black jazz band in London during a period of major change. The series is produced by Ruby Films, which also brought Toast, Jane Eyre and Lay the Favorite to LipSync.

Falcón – TX TBC, Sky Atlantic

Another big-budget, ambitious TV drama, this is LipSync’s first project commissioned by Sky Atlantic and the first time working with production company Mammoth Screen. ‘Falcón’ is a 4x60min detective drama set in Seville, based on the best-selling novels by Robert Wilson. The first two episodes are directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point, Endgame). The producer, Julia Stannard, worked with LipSync on BBC TWO’s poignant Munich air crash drama, ‘United’.

Leonardo (series 2) – TX TBC, CBBC

LipSync provides post-production services for the second series of this acclaimed CBBC dramatisation of the teenage years of Leonardo da Vinci, produced by Kindle Entertainment.
